Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. May 2018

  • A service-connected disabled veteran was offered and accepted a Tax Analyst position starting at $56,000.00 per year. The veteran had been co-case managed by the Office of Veteran Employment Services and Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment as the veteran had participated in a Department of Veterans Affairs funded education program. Services provided include a case management support model that included a comprehensive assessment; an individual employment plan; and job and employer referrals.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was offered and accepted a Desk Support Specialist position starting at $20.00 per hour increasing income from previous employment by $10.00 per hour. The veteran had been co-case managed by the Office of Veteran Employment Services and Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment as the veteran had participated in a Department of Veterans Affairs funded education program. Services provided include a case management support model that included a comprehensive assessment; an individual employment plan; career guidance; job and employer referrals; and job search and placement assistance.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was offered and accepted a Cyber Security Administrator position starting at $80,000.00 per year. The veteran had been co-case managed by the Office of Veteran Employment Services and Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment as the veteran had participated in a Department of Veterans Affairs funded education program. Services provided include a case management support model that included a comprehensive assessment; an individual employment plan; and job and employer referrals.
  • A long-term unemployed and low-income veteran was offered and accepted an Office Clerk position starting at $30,000.00 per year. The veteran participated in numerous mock interview sessions with the Office of Veteran Employment Services to enhance interviewing skills. These skills contributed directly to the veteran receiving this offer for employment.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume and job development and referral assistance. The veteran utilized resume development services to emphasize prior work experience and was offered an Information Technology Manager position starting at $55,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was working to complete a Department of Veterans Affairs funded education program connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development and job referral assistance. Based on prior work experience, the veteran was offered and accepted a Tax Analyst position starting at $56,000.00 per year.
  • A low-income veteran was offered and accepted an Information Technology Technician position starting at $40,000.00 per year based on prior experience that was highlighted during services provided such as resume and interview skills development and job referral assistance by the Office of Veteran Employment Services.
  • Two veterans experiencing homelessness connected with the Center for Veterans Issues and the Office of Veteran Employment Services. Staff provided resume development services that helped to emphasize prior training and work experience and both veterans were offered and accepted Cook positions each starting at $30,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume and interview skills development and job referral assistance. The veteran was offered and accepted a Heavy Equipment Operator position starting at $38,000.00 per year.
  • A veteran experiencing homelessness connected with the Center for Veterans Issues and the Office of Veteran Employment Services. Staff provided resume development services that helped to emphasize prior training and work experience. The veteran was offered and accepted a Building Maintenance Worker position starting at $28,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume and interview skills development; job referral assistance; and job search and placement. The veteran was offered and accepted a Boiler Operator position starting at $24.05 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development support helping to emphasize knowledge, skills, and abilities related to specific job opportunities of the veteran's interest. Staff also assisted with interview skills development and job referrals. The veteran was offered and accepted a Field Service Engineer position starting at $55,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development support helping to emphasize knowledge, skills, and abilities related to specific job opportunities of the veteran's interest. Staff also assisted with interview skills development and job referrals. The veteran was offered and accepted an Operations Manager position starting at $40,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was offered and accepted a Network Security position starting at $21.00 per hour. The veteran completed a higher education degree program in Information Technology Network Security funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs and connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services for employment assistance. Staff provided resume and interview skills development; job referral assistance; an initial assessment; career guidance; and job search and placement support.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was offered and accepted a Registered Nurse position starting at $26.64 per hour. The veteran completed a Bachelor's degree program in nursing funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs and connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services for employment assistance. Staff provided resume and interview skills development and job referral assistance.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was offered and accepted a Parks Technician position starting at $16.73 per hour. The veteran completed a higher education degree program funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs and connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services for employment assistance. Staff provided resume and interview skills development and job referral assistance.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was offered and accepted a Correctional Officer position starting at $16.76 per hour. The Veteran completed a higher education degree program in criminal justice funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs and connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services for employment assistance. Staff provided resume and interview skills development and job referral assistance.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume development; referrals to jobs and partner support agencies; and interview skills development. The veteran had completed an Associate's Degree funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs but did not pursue that career field. The veteran has received and accepted a Production Associate position starting at $15.36 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran reached out to the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received job development and job referral assistance. The veteran having extensive carpentry skills from previous employment and training experience was offered and accepted a Cabinet Maker position starting at $24.00 per hour.
