Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. June 2018

  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume development that highlighted prior work and education experience; and job referrals related to previous experience. The veteran was offered and accepted a Financial Account Technician position starting at $28,545.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume development that highlighted prior work and education experience; job referrals related to previous experience; and interview skills development. The veteran was offered and accepted a Transportation Coordinator position starting at $31,000.00 per year.
  • A veteran experiencing homelessness connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume development that highlighted prior work and education experience; a comprehensive assessment; an individualized employment plan; career guidance; job search and placement assistance; and job referrals related to previous experience. The veteran was offered and accepted a Flexographic Technician position starting at $14.00 per hour.
  • A veteran experiencing homelessness connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume development that highlighted prior work and education experience; a comprehensive assessment; an individualized employment plan; career guidance; job search and placement assistance; and job referrals related to previous experience. The veteran was offered and accepted a Machine Operator position starting at $14.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume development that highlighted prior work and education experience; job referrals related to previous experience; and interview skills development. The veteran was offered and accepted a Biological Science Technician position starting at $28,945.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume development that highlighted prior work and education experience; and job referrals related to previous experience. Staff performed a comprehensive assessment and created an individualized employment plan to help guide the veteran through the job search effort. The veteran was offered and accepted a Welder position starting at $17.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran and parent of four young children connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume development that highlighted prior work and education experience; and job referrals related to previous experience. The veteran was willing to commute for work but was not able to relocate due to a recent purchase of a home. Needing to work around a spouse's and a daycare schedule, staff performed a comprehensive assessment and created an individualized employment plan to help guide the veteran through the job search effort. The veteran was offered and accepted a Service Advisor Manager position starting at $45,000.00 per year.
  • A low-income veteran and parent of three was terminated from employment after 28 years. With no safety or conduct violations and 17 straight performance incentive awards, the veteran was emotionally hurt yet resilient and prepared to move on. The veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume and job development to highlight prior work and education experience; and job referrals related to that experience. Staff performed a comprehensive assessment and created an individualized employment plan to help guide the veteran through the job search effort and provided a direct referral to an employer who immediately interviewed and offered employment. The veteran was offered and accepted a Milling Machine Operator position starting at $19.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran completed a master's degree with an emphasis in counseling. The education program was funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services for assistance with the employment search effort. Staff provided resume development that highlighted work and education qualifications; labor market information to learn more about opportunities in the region; job search assistance; and the veteran participated in a work experience opportunity with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. The veteran was offered and accepted a Jailer position with a local law enforcement entity starting at $18.75 per hour.
  • A low-income veteran received individualized career services that included interview skill and resume development; job leads and referrals; and job development from Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was offered and accepted a Cardiac Catheter Technician position starting at $44,000.00 per year.
  • A veteran at risk of homelessness was offered and accepted a Computer Numerical Control Machinist position starting at $25.00 per hour. The veteran received case management support from Office of Veteran Employment Services staff that included resume development that highlighted prior work experience and training; and job and employer referrals relevant to skills and interests.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received individualized career services including resume development that highlighted prior work and education experience; job referrals; and job development from Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was offered and accepted an Administrative Support position starting at $34,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected veteran was offered and accepted a Crew Chief position with a local flooring company. The veteran received case management support that included a comprehensive assessment and an individualized employment plan that focused on interests and prior work and education experience. The employer felt strongly that the veteran's military experience was a great asset that will help the veteran achieve success in this leadership position.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was offered and accepted a Computer Numerical Control Operator position starting at $16.32 per hour. The veteran received case management support from Office of Veteran Employment Services staff that included resume development that highlighted prior work experience and training; and job and employer referrals related to skills and interests.
  • A veteran experiencing homelessness and participating in the State of Wisconsin Homeless Veterans Assistance Program contacted the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included a comprehensive assessment; an individual employment plan; resume development that highlighted prior work experience; and job referrals related to prior experience. The veteran was offered and accepted a Warehouse Associate position based on previous supply chain experience and starting at $14.25 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran contacted the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included a comprehensive assessment; an individual employment plan; resume development that highlighted prior work experience; and job referrals related to prior experience. The veteran was offered and accepted a Local Delivery Driver position based on previous employment experience and starting at $30,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran contacted the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included a comprehensive assessment; an individual employment plan; resume and job development that highlighted prior work experience; and job referrals related to prior experience. The veteran was offered and accepted a Network Administrative II position based on previous employment and education experience and starting at $65,500.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled and low-income veteran who was also experiencing homelessness connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received referrals to support agencies; resume development that highlighted skills and experience; and job and employer referrals. The veteran was offered and accepted a Landscaping and Design position starting at $15.00 per hour.
  • A low-income veteran who had also been previously incarcerated connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development that highlighted skills and experience; and job and employer referrals. The veteran was offered and accepted a Forklift Operator and Picker position starting at $14.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development that highlighted skills and experience; interview skills development; and job and employer referrals. The veteran was offered and accepted a Production Supervisor position starting at $52,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran completed a Department of Veterans Affairs funding education program. The veteran also connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received job and interview skills development; resume development that highlighted skills and experience; and job and employer referrals. The veteran was offered and accepted a Recruiter position starting at $17.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development that highlighted skills and experience; and job development and referrals. The veteran was offered and accepted a Production Lead Worker position starting at $46,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received employment assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services including resume development that highlighted skills and experience; career guidance; job search and placement support; and job and employer referrals. The veteran was offered and accepted an Office Manager position starting at $17.18 per hour.
