Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. February 2021

  • A low-income veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame their risk of homelessness and accepted a job offer as Lead Worker with local construction firm beginning February 8, 2021 - earning $41,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran learned to revise their resume, received career suggestions, and assistance with job leads and referrals. The veteran accepted a Security Guard position with a local security company beginning February 1, 2021 earning $31,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development and job referrals. The veteran accepted an offer with the State of WI as a Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist, earning $38,500.00 per year.
  • A homeless veteran was provided career services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services team. The veteran learned to revise a resume, received suggestions and assistance with job leads and referrals and secured a Customer Service Representative position earning $31,500.00 annually.
  • A veteran who has been unemployed for more than 27 weeks accepted a position as an Administrative Specialist responsible for payables and receivables after receiving career services assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran negotiated a salary of $31,200.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was working with Office of Veteran Employment Services staff was guide through the individualized career services process where they were able to secure a position as a Material Handler earning annual salary of $43,000.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who has been unemployed for 27 weeks or more received a full complement of career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and was hired as a Controls Engineer. Their annual salary will be $83.000.00.
  • A veteran who was recently released from incarceration received assistance with job development and job searching skills from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. After interviewing with several companies, the veteran accepted a position as a Line Operator with full benefits and a starting salary of $32,950.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was hired at an auto hauling company after receiving resume assistance, interviewing skills, and job search assistance during case management. Their wage is piecemeal rate based on number of units hauled. The veteran was a CVSO referral.
  • A Chapter 31 veteran reported that they accepted a job offer but the job will not start until another employee retires in April. He will be starting as an Industrial Maintenance Technician at $20.50/hour plus full benefits. He is working now for the interim with one of his instructors who he has been helping to build a prototype piece of equipment for a company, but it appears that this is off the books. He makes about $150 for a half day of work when he works for him, or about $15/hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was hired as a Machine Operator in a Production environment. This is a full-time position. Pay is $18.00 an hour. Veteran received Disabled Veteran Outreach Program services. This included resume development, job leads, and direct job development.
  • A low income and homeless veteran received Disabled Veteran Outreach Program intensive services, including resume development, job leads, coaching and mentoring. Veteran was hired as a Robotics Manager earning $80,000 per year, plus bonuses.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who completed the VA Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness and Employment Program worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who guided the veteran through individualized career services. The veteran received an offer as a Call Center Analyst Level II with an annual salary of $43,000.00.
  • A homeless veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services to develop a resume and receive training on job sourcing. The veteran was offered a position as a General Laborer with an annual salary of $31,000.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided career planning services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services, which led to the veteran securing a professional position as an Apprenticeship Outreach Representative with a starting annual salary of $50,000 and will start their new position on February 16, 2021.
  • A low-income veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran accepted a position as a Security Officer earning $30,000.00 annually with a start date of February 15, 2021.
  • Service-connected disabled veteran who relocated from Florida and relocated veteran from the state of Florida after recently being married, completed resume development and an individual employment plan with the disabled veteran outreach program specialist and job development from the local veteran employment representative (LVER). The veteran was hired as a Veteran’s Administrative Assistant/Certifying Official for a local technical college. This veteran will earn $22.00 per hour, work full-time and have full benefits.
  • The Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a homeless veteran with resume, job search, employment goals and referred to Job Center Partners for additional assistance. The veteran has accepted a position as a Production Worker making $15 per hour with benefits.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was previously incarcerated was hired as a Peer Specialist Liaison for veterans with a community program. This is a full-time position. Pay is $17.00 an hour. Veteran received Disabled Veteran Outreach Program services. This included resume development, job leads, and direct job development.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran relocating from Minnesota because of lack of work due to the COVID pandemic, received assistance with resume development, job leads, and job development from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran secured a position earning $16.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran relocating from Colorado received assistance with resume development, Federal Resume development, job leads, and career guidance from a DVOP. Veteran secured a position as an Air Quality Specialist earning $110K per year plus bonus and stock options.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance with federal resume development and job leads from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran secured a position as a Tax analyst earning $58,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided services by Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who helped the veteran develop a resume and provided guidance on interviewing. The veteran applied and received and offer as an Administrative Specialist GS-5 earning an annual salary of $37,000.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received a full complement of career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and was hired as a Program Specialist with an annual salary of $50,000.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided employment service from the Office of Veteran Employment Services where they received guidance on resume development and interviewing. The veteran accepted an offer as a Buyer Support Specialist with an annual salary of $42,000.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was given services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided the veteran guidance on interviewing and job sourcing. This veteran also received several job referrals, eventually interviewed, and accepted an offer of $63,500.00 annually as a Production Supervisor.
  • A low-income veteran who was between 18-24 years old, and at risk of homelessness, was referred to Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist (DVOP) and job development from the Local Veteran Employment Representative for employment assistance. The DVOP completed resume development, secured food cards, and rent assistance. The veteran was ultimately hired as a full-time Installation Technician and will earn $17.00 per hour.
  • The Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a veteran completing the VA Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness and Employment program, with job search, a resume review, and career guidance. The veteran has accepted a position as an Application Development Engineer at a salary of $78,000 per year with benefits.
  • The Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a veteran completing the VA Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness and Employment program, with career guidance, resume development, and job search. The veteran has accepted a position in the nursing field with a starting salary of $50,000.00 per year with outstanding benefits.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was working with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff, was provided a full complement of career planning services and gained a professional position as Job Coach, with a starting salary of $13.00 per hour.
  • A veteran completing the VA Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness and Employment program worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff (who provided the veteran with a full complement of career services, and gained a professional position as an Emergency Manager, with a starting salary of $58,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran and formerly incarcerated veteran was hired through the Veterans Non-Compete program as a Fund Specialist for a state agency with a pay rate of $24.36 an hour. The veteran received career services assistance from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist that included resume development, job leads, and direct job development.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran currently in the Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness and Employment program received assistance with resume development, job leads, and career guidance from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist. The veteran secured a position as an Electronics Technician earning $17.00 per hour.
  • After receiving a full complement of career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services, a service-connected disabled veteran was hired as an IT Administrator. This is a full-time permanent position earning $45,320.00 annually.
  • A low-income veteran who worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist learned to develop their resume and improve interviewing skills found employment as a Forklift Operator earning $33,300.00 annually.
  • A low-income veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame the risk of homelessness and accepted a job offer as a Facility Maintenance specialist with a property management company earning $41,600.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran learned to revise their resume, received suggestions, and assistance with job leads and referrals. The veteran accepted a Carpenter position restoring buildings with a local construction company earning $35,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran learned to revise their resume and received assistance with job leads and referrals from the Office of Veteran Employment Services team. The veteran accepted a position as a Cook with a local restaurant earning $30,000.00 annually.
  • A low-income veteran who was at risk of homelessness when referred to a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist by the County Veterans Service Officer's office, received numerous job developments, resume development, and job placement assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was hired as a full-time second year Union Welder Apprentice, will earn $24.50 per hour, and earn an additional $1,100.00 per month from their Post 911 GI Bill Apprenticeship Program Benefit.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran and low-income veteran who was working with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff was provided a full complement of career planning services. The veteran secured a professional position as Maintenance Technician with a starting wage of $21.08 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was hired by a local supply company as a Customer Service Representative earning $17.00 per hour after being case managed by a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist. The services provided included: resume development, job leads, direct job development, and co-enrollment with other supportive services.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was hired by a local manufacturing company as a Production Department Manager with a starting salary of $95,000 per year. The veteran received employment guidance, career mentoring, and resume assistance from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist.
