Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. October 2020

  • A previously incarcerated veteran received assistance with resume development, job referrals, career planning, and placement assistance. The Southern Region Supervisor, working with the Distribution Center HR Manager of a local Food Warehouse assisted in securing a position as an Order Selector at a rate of $15.50 per hr.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance with career exploration for apprenticeship opportunities, resume development, job leads, and job development from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran ultimately secured a position as a Production Builder earning $19.00 per hr.
  • A Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist assisted a service-connected disabled veteran with employment assistance and resume services. The veteran found temporary employment as a supervisor with a Tree servicing company earning $25.00 per hr. In addition, veteran accepted a position with the Wisconsin State Troopers and will start working in January of 2021.
  • A Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist assisted two homeless veterans who learned to revise their resumes, received suggestions and assistance with job leads and referrals. Both veterans accepted Machinists positions and are being paid $18.50 hourly wage.
  • A Vietnam Era Veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and apply for jobs. The veteran accepted an offer as a Production worker earning $13.00/hr.
  • A Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist assisted a formerly incarcerated veteran with career planning services, resume development and an individual employment plan; which led to the veteran securing a position as an Auto Parts Stocker starting at $13.00 per hour.
  • The Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a service-connected veteran with resume creation, job search, and referral services. The veteran has accepted employment as a Merchandise Associate earning $17 per hour full time.
  • The Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a service-connected disabled veteran with job search and interview services. The veteran has accepted a position as a Production Specialist earning $19.49 per hour with full benefits.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was recalled to previous employment as a Personal Transportation Driver, after COVID 19 layoff. This is a full-time position with benefits and pay of $18.00 an hour. The veteran received assistance from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Specialist with unemployment filing, resume development, mock interview and new job leads in case of employer closure.
  • A transition assistance program veteran received employment guidance, mentoring and resume help several times per week from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist and Local Veteran Employment Representative. Due to the assistance, the veteran gained employment as a HVAC Worker.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided services through the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided a comprehensive assessment, an Individual employment plan and guidance on how to develop a resume. The veteran has specialized training in the field of Speech Therapy Pathology. This veteran received an offer as a Speech Pathologist with an annual salary of $79,000.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills while working with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist found employment as a CNC Machine Operator earning $38,800.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was hired by a local insurance company as a Training Development Manager with a starting salary of $62,000 a year. The veteran received a myriad of career services provided by a Disabled Veteran Outreach Specialist services that assisted in them finding gainful employment.
  • A special service-connected disabled veteran and formerly incarcerated veteran received employment guidance, mentoring, and resume help several times a week from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist and Local Veteran Employment Representative. The veteran is now employed as an Accountant and back up Payroll Manager earning $17.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills, while working with a Disabled Outreach Program Specialist, found employment as a Customer Representative Specialist at the Social Security Administration earning $41,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development and job referrals. The veteran accepted an offer as a Customer Representative Specialist earning $41,000.00 per year.
  • A homeless veteran was provided career planning services by the Office of Veteran Employment services team. The veteran received training on developing a resume and received several employment leads. The veteran interviewed and accepted a position as a Laborer in construction with a starting salary of $31,200.00 annually.
  • A previously incarcerated and homeless veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist to develop a resume and job searching methods. The veteran applied for several positions and accepted an offer as an Assembler with a starting salary of $24,340.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was homeless completed resume development and job development with the local Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist .The veteran was hired into a position that was developed by a Local Veteran Employment Representative as a full time Process Technician and will earn $21.50 per hour with full benefits.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran that re-entered case management, has now begun delivering for restaurants earning $18.00 per hour. The veteran benefitted from the job search techniques and resume training provided by the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who completed the VA Chapter 31/Veteran Readiness and Employment program worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who provided the veteran with a full complement of individualized career services. The veteran secured employment as a Case Manager & Therapist with a starting wage of $21.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received numerous individualized career services from the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist and Local Veteran Employment Representative who gained employment as an Asset Management Manager at earning $21.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran lost their position due to COVID 19. The veteran received assistance with Federal and traditional resume development, multiple job leads, and job development from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran secured a position as a Safety Compliance Manager earning $70,000.00 per year.
  • A homeless veteran was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services who learned to revise their resume and received numerous job leads and job referrals. The veteran accepted a position as a Painter for local renovation company with an annual salary of $36,000.00.
  • A homeless veteran working with the Office of Veteran Employment Services received career services including resume development, interviewing skills, and job search techniques. The veteran was offered a position as a Driver with an annual salary of $33,000.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and was provided an Individual Employment Plan, Comprehensive assessment, and resume development. The veteran received an offer as a Project Engineer with an annual salary of $58,000.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided guidance on resume development, interviewing and job searching. The veteran received an offer as a Navigator with an annual salary of $51,000.00.
  • An 18-24 -year old veteran received guidance from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist and was subsequently hired as a Delivery Driver with a starting annual salary of $31,300.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided career planning services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services, which led to the veteran securing a position as a Delivery Driver Maintenance Manager with a starting pay of $33,280.00 per year.
  • A low-income veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist to develop a resume and job searching methods. The veteran applied for several positions and accepted an offer as a Home Security Installer with a starting salary of $60,000.00 per year.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who provided the veteran with individualized career planning services that included resume development, job searching techniques, and interviewing skill enhancement. The veteran accepted a position as a Hybrid Information Technology representative with an annual salary of $70,000.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who lost their position due to COVID 19 received career services from Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was referred to local resources for food and income and housing assistance. The veteran found employment at $16.00 per hour as a Shipping and Receiving Clerk.
  • A Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist provided employment services to a Low-Income veteran resulting in the veteran gaining employment as a Fraud Support Associate earning $34,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was hired as a Small Business Loans Processor related to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a federal contract position earning $25.00 per hour starting pay. The veteran received Disabled Veteran Outreach Specialist help with resume development, interviewing techniques and connection to job leads
