Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. March 2021

  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist that included resume development, job leads, and job development. The veteran secured a position as a Driver / Maintenance Technician earning $15.00 per hour.
  • A veteran who was facing homelessness worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who assisted the veteran with receiving guidance on enhancing their resume and receiving instructions on interviewing. Subsequently, the veteran was offered a position as a Driver earning $30,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who completed the VA Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness & Employment Program worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who guided the veteran through individualized career services. The veteran received an offer as a Welder with an annual salary of $39,480.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided individualized career services in the form of case management, comprehensive assessment, individual employment plan, resume development and a coordinated conference assessment meeting with Local Veteran Employment Representative which resulted in the veteran securing a position as a Coordinating Manager making $43,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was case managed by an Office of Veteran Employment Services team member received career guidance, job referrals, and employment search assistance. The Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist received a position that met the qualification of the veteran from the Local Veteran Employment Representative where the veteran applied and was offered a position as an Administrative Assistant earning $34,320.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development and job referrals. The veteran accepted an offer as a Peds ICU Nurse earning $141,440.00 annually in California.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received job development and job referrals relating to work experience. The veteran accepted an Administrative Assistant position starting at $31,200.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran participating in the VA Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness & Employment Program received career planning assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran applied to several positions and accepted a position as an Administrative Assistant, earning $31,200.00 annually.
  • A veteran at risk of being homeless was provided resume assistance, interview coaching, and job leads from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran accepted a position as a Test Operator with an annual salary of $32,000.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was recently terminated from their manufacturing position was interested in finding another manufacturing position working third shift. After review of the veteran's resume, their job preferences were sent to the Local Veteran Employment Representative for job search assistance. The Local Veteran Employment Representative was able to locate a third shift manufacturing position where the veteran applied, interviewed, and was offered the position starting at $19.00 per hour.
  • The Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a low-income veteran with a resume review, job search, and job referrals. The veteran accepted employment as a Maintenance Technician earning $26.22 per hour with benefits. The veteran also received financial training and assistance by a partner agency.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was hired by a local veteran's hospital as an Administrative Specialist earning $43,000.00 annually after receiving assistance from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The services provided included resume development, job leads, and direct job development, and co-enrollment with other supportive services.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received employment assistance from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist who provided employment guidance, mentoring and resume assistance. The veteran was hired by a local truck driving company as a Truck Driver for a full-time position with a starting salary of $60,000 per year with benefits.
  • An at risk of being homeless veteran was provided a referral to the County Veteran Service Office, resume assistance, and job leads from multiple job boards from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran began employment as a Carpenter earning $20.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided resume assistance, career planning services, job and employer referrals. The veteran is now working part-time to supplement their income earning $15,000.00 annually as a Dance Instructor.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was case managed by an Office of Veteran Employment Services team member received career guidance, job referrals, and employment search assistance. The veteran applied for and was offered a position as a Desk Side Support Technician, earning $60,320.00 annually.
  • A veteran recently overcame homelessness through the joint efforts of the Center for Veteran Issues and the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran graduated culinary training, updated their resume, and began applying for cook positions. The veteran accepted an offer as a Cook earning $29,320.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who recently moved to the local area from Milwaukee was at risk of being homeless after leaving their job in the local area. The veteran received services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services team. The team reviewed the veteran's resume, assisted with jobs search, and worked on interviewing skills. The veteran gained employment as an HR Generalist earning $70,000 annually.
  • A recently separated veteran was seeking employment while in college. The veteran was assisted by the Office of Veteran Employment Services team. The veteran was taught how to construct and target a resume, interviewing skills, and assistance with job leads. The veteran entered the hiring process for corrections and secured employment with a county jail earning $23.40 hourly as a Correctional Officer.
  • A low income, service-connected disabled veteran was notified that their National Guard activation has been extended until 10/1/2021. The veteran has decided to enlist on active duty (Army) upon completion of those National Guard orders. Veteran will earn E-6 pay of $2,800.00 per month which began on 02/28/2021.
  • A service-connected disabled and low-income veteran secured a contracted position and is now a part of the financial services team as a full-time Database Administrator after receiving multiple individualized careers services from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran will earn 48,000.00 per year and have full benefits.
  • A veteran at risk of homelessness after recently being released from incarceration was hired as a Production Technician. The veteran will earn $14.00 per hour, receive a $1,000 sign-on bonus, work full-time and earn full benefits.
  • A service-connected disabled and low-income veteran who was recently released from active duty was hired as an Outdoor Associate earning $15.00 per hour while attending college.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran that a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist began working with in February 2020 gained temporary employment with the US Census Bureau until the end of August 2020. The veteran was placed back into case management in October 2020 and was provided a full array of individualized career services. The veteran secured employment in January 2021 as a Carpenter working 35 hours per week at $20.00 per hour for a disaster restoration company.
  • A veteran at-risk of homelessness received referrals to the local County Veteran Service Office and received a Supportive Services for Veteran Families program grant for housing and temporary financial assistance. The veteran also received a host of individualized career services, resume development, job leads and accepted a position as a Service Writer earning $18.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance with resume development, job leads, and job development from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran secured a position as an HR Generalist earning $58,864 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was enrolled in the Homeless Veteran Re-Integration Program (HVRP), worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who guided the veteran through individualized career services. The veteran was thereafter able to secure a position as a Machine Operator earning a salary of $31,200.00. The veteran began employment on March 22, 2021.
  • A low-income veteran that the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) provided services to was at risk of homelessness and looking for job leads and resume development assistance. The DVOP completed labor market information career research and assisted with modifying a targeted resume. The veteran was subsequently hired as a full-time Truss Builder earning $19.00 per hour.
  • A low-income veteran received assistance with resume and job development from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran secured a position as a Class A CDL Driver earning $26.00 per hour.
  • A homeless veteran was provided a number of career planning services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff which assisted the veteran with applying for positions in their career field. The veteran applied, interviewed, and accepted an offer as Groomer earning $25,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was at risk of homelessness received assistance from Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) and looking for job lead and resume development assistance. The DVOP completed individual employment plan and resume development. The veteran was subsequently hired as a full-time Production Shift Manager, earn $47,000 per year, and have full benefits.
  • A low-income veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran accepted a job offer as a third shift Machine Operator earning $30,000.00 annually. Their employment began on March 14, 2021.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was assisted by a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist who steered the veteran through several individualized career services. The veteran used those services and skills learned to apply for several positions and received an offer as a Warehouse Manager with a salary of $55,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was recently terminated from their position began working with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran worked on their targeted resume, interviewing skills, and job search skills. The veteran found employment working with a troubled youth service as a Counselor earning $20.00 per hour.
  • A veteran who was recently released from incarceration worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development guidance, interviewing assistance, and assistance with finding and apply for jobs. The veteran accepted an offer for a Quality Assurance position earning $42,757 annually.
  • A low-income, service-connected disabled veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) who assisted the veteran with job leads, resume development, and assistance applying for housing/rental grant applications. The veteran was awarded a $3,000.00 retraining grant and was skill-marketed to several companies by the Local Veteran Employment Representative. The veteran accepted a position as a full-time Industrial Machine Maintenance Mechanic earning $68,640.00 annually with full benefits.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was presented to a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) for job leads and resume development assistance. The DVOP completed resume development, while the veteran received job development assistance from The Local Veteran Employment Representative. The veteran was hired as a Process Technician and will earn $19.00 per hour and have full benefits.
  • A homeless veteran received career support from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program (DVOP) Specialist. Specifically, the veteran was co-enrolled with a partner agency, secured fuel and food cards, housing assistance, resume development, and job development advocacy from the Local Veteran Employment Representative. The veteran accepted a position as a full-time Industrial Machine Maintenance Technician earning $21.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran requested assistance from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist who guided the veteran through an individual employment plan and resume development. The veteran was subsequently hired as a full-time Ordinance Technician II, earning $33.00 per hour.
  • A low-income transitioning service member received guidance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was aided on resume creation, a comprehensive assessment, and an Individual Employment Plan with job referrals. The veteran accepted an offer as a Warehouse Specialist earning $21.50 per hour.
  • A homeless veteran was hired into a city position as a Construction Inspector- Engineering Assistant earning $17.96 per hour with benefits. The veteran received services from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist: Referrals to housing resources and the County Veteran Service Officer along with resume modification to match their qualifications, a virtual mock interview, and several job leads and referrals.
  • A low-income veteran received assistance from Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist staff with resume development and interviewing techniques. The veteran began full time employment as a Repairing, Building and Maintenance earning $45,000.00 annually with a start date of 22 Mar 2021.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received career planning assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran accepted a position as a Quality Engineer earning $95,000.00 annually.
  • A low-income veteran received resume development, mock interview practice, and job leads from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist which resulted in the veteran applying, interviewing, and accepting an offer with the Department of Human Services as a Mail Room Supervisor earning $56,160.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist to develop a resume and job searching methods. The veteran applied for several positions and accepted an offer as a Legal Instruments Examiner with a starting salary of $45,570.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided resume assistance, a federal resume template, job leads and career planning services. The veteran is working part time as a Human Resource Assistant $20.00 per hour. The Start date is March 1st,2021.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist that included several career services such as: job guidance and coaching, resume development, interview assistance, job leads, and cover letter development. The veteran subsequently was hired as a Medical Administrative Specialist with a starting wage of $17.50 per hour.
  • A low-income veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran accepted an offer as Safety Lead Worker earning $36,400.00 annually beginning March 12, 2021.
  • A veteran who has been released from incarceration worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing assistance, and assistance finding and apply for jobs. The veteran accepted an offer for a Forklift Operator position earning $33,114 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran being cased managed by a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) was seeking job leads and resume development assistance. The DVOP completed an individual employment plan and resume development. The veteran was subsequently hired as a full-time 2nd Shift Store Manager and will earn $18.61 per hour with full benefits.
  • The Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a service-connected disabled veteran who completed the VA Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness & Employment program with job search, resume, and employment referrals. The veteran has accepted a position as a Biological Science Technician with a salary of $37,914 per year with benefits. the veter.an is extremely pleased with all services provided by OVES.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received Individualized career services from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist that included: resume development, mock interviewing techniques, job leads, and referrals to employers. The veteran was hired as a Production Engineer earning $29.00 per hour in a full-time position with benefits.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided resume development, job leads, county veteran service officer information and application assistance by a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist which led the veteran being hired as a Manufacturing and Assembly Worker with starting pay of $17.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was case managed by an Office of Veteran Employment Services team member received career guidance; job referrals; resume creation; and employment search assistance was able to obtain a part time remote HR position with an annual salary of $31,200.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was assisted by an Office of Veteran Employment Services team member. The staff provided a full complement of job service tools supporting the veteran in applying for and interviewing for positions. The veteran accepted an offer for a permanent position as a Carpenter with a starting salary of $60,000.00 annually. Start date 4/5/2021.
  • An at-risk of homelessness veteran received services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided guidance on resume writing and interviewing. The veteran gained employment as an Operator with an annual salary of $38,000.00.
  • An at-risk of homelessness veteran developed a working relationship with the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) staff. The veteran received case management and was provided several career services and referrals. Using the skills provided by OVES staff, the veteran applied to and accepted employment as a Material Handler earning $44,320.00 annually.
  • A Vietnam-era veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received a job offer earning $46,035.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was working with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received career services including resume development, interviewing skills, and job search techniques. The veteran used those skills to gain employment as a Night Stocker earning $26,357.00 annually.
  • A veteran who is special disabled and entitled to VA Compensation worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and apply for jobs. The veteran accepted an offer for an Electrician Apprentice position earning $34,841.00 annually.
  • A low-income veteran was provided career services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was provided career guidance on resume development, comprehensive assessment and Individual Employment Plan with job referrals. The veteran accepted an offer as a Property Manager earning $38,000.00 annually.
