Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. April 2022

  • A spouse of a 100 percent service-connected disabled veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received career guidance, resume development, employment plan, job referrals, individualized assessment, and other intensive services. The veteran secured a position as an Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Specialist at a rate of $24.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided with job seeking skills and information for local hiring events. The veteran attended a hiring event and was offered a full-time position on the spot as an Assembly Worker earning $16.50 per hour to start and then $17.50 per hour after 90 days.
  • An unemployed for more then-27 weeks veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided career planning, resume development and direct job leads. The veteran was hired as a TIG Welder. This is a full-time permanent position with a wage of $38,480.00 per year.
  • A veteran at risk of homelessness worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who was provided a comprehensive assessment and resume development, along with job leads. The veteran was hired with as a local Parks and Recreations attendant with a starting pay of $39,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received resume development suggestions and referrals to several employers by the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran agreed to terms for employment as a Tap Room Manager, earning $31,000.00 annually.
  • A veteran at risk of homelessness was working with Center for Veteran Issues and the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received career services including resume development, interviewing skills, and job search techniques. The veteran used those skills to gain employment building new houses as a Carpentry Specialist earning $50,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided resume development, fine tuning the professional summary, interview skills, and how to do effective job searches. The veteran was able to apply, interview, and gained employment as a part-time Store Associate with a starting pay of $13.36/hour.
  • A low income and justice-involved veteran facing homelessness worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received career services including resume development, employment planning and referrals to outside resources. The veteran accepted a full-time Assembly position at a local manufacturer with a starting wage of $18.00 per hour with a sign on bonus and potential raises within the first year.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was assisted with an unemployment claim, resume development, and work search assistance. The veteran applied for and was hired as a Maintenance Technician with a local company. Starting wage is $28.23 per hour plus full benefits.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was a recent college graduate and was provided an individual employment plan, resume development, and job leads. The veteran applied for and was hired as a Judicial Court Operations Associate. This is a full-time position with a starting wage of $19.71 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received a mock interview, resume development, an individualized employment plan and other career services. The veteran has secured a position as a Cyber Security Analyst at an hourly rate of $47.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received resume development and direct job referrals by the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran accepted an offer as an IT Specialist earning $110,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills, while working with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran found employment as a Testing Department Supervisor earning $35,360.00 annually.
  • A homelessness veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services after securing housing. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a fulltime position as a Production Specialist with a local stamping company with a starting salary of $32,000 annually.
  • A homeless veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran learned to revise their resume and received assistance with job leads and referrals. The veteran accepted a Cook position for a local hotel chain and will earn $30,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was able to revise their resume and was provided suggestions and assistance with job leads and referrals. The veteran accepted a Recycling Specialist position for a local corporation and will earn $30,000.00 annually.
  • A veteran at risk of being homeless was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided a comprehensive assessment to determine their needs, an individual employment plan, and resume development. The veteran was hired as a Park Caretaker earning $37,440.00 annually.
  • A veteran at risk of becoming homeless worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received a full complement of career services and was hired as a General Mechanic. This is a full-time permanent position with a wage of $ $48,880.00 per year with benefits.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran received assistance with resume development, job searching skills, and interviewing techniques. After interviewing with several companies, the veteran accepted a position as a Travel Nurse with full benefits and a starting wage of $117.00 per hour to include per diem.
  • A veteran that was recently discharged from the military received assistance with job leads; resume development; and financial literary information from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran applied, interviewed, and accepted an offer as Technical Support Technician with a starting salary of $52,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, job leads, and interviewing skills. The veteran applied for and accepted a position as a Regional Manager for a large solar company with a starting salary of $147,000 a year.
  • A homeless and low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received referral to housing resources, community partners, and resume development. The veteran was referred to job leads and was hired as an Intake Specialist with a local Outreach Program, with a starting salary of $15.00 an hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received job referrals, and other supportive services referrals and guidance on resume writing. The veteran accepted an offer as an Inventory Parts Specialist with a local automotive company with a staring wage of $16.00 per hour.

The veteran was provided individualized career services including resume development, job leads, and small business information for veterans. The veteran started his own business as an Insurance Representative for a larger Insurance Provider. This is a full-time position with a starting salary of around $50,000 a year.

The veteran received career guidance; job referrals; resume creation; and employment search assistance. The veteran applied for and was offered a position as a HR Coordinator earning $49,920.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled and homeless veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran completed a comprehensive assessment and was assisted with job leads and interview preparation. The veteran was hired as a Customer Quality Engineer earning $89,440.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received career guidance, job referrals, and employment search assistance. The veteran applied for and was offered a position as a Financial Associate Manager earning $75,000.00 annually.
  • A Low-Income and homeless veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received individualized career services including resume development, interviewing skills, and job search techniques. The veteran used those skills to gain employment as a Crew Member with an annual salary of $25,000.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received career guidance, job referrals, and employment search assistance. The veteran applied for and was offered a position as a Legal Instrument Examiner earning $46,712.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was assisted with resume reviews, interview techniques, and job referrals for federal opportunities. The veteran accepted a federal opportunity as a Financial Administrative Specialist with a salary of $67,442 per year.
  • A veteran at risk of becoming homeless was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a fulltime job offer as a federal government employee as a Veteran Advocate, earning $42,000.00 annually.
  • A veteran who was on the verge of becoming homeless worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was assisted with a comprehensive assessment and resume assistance. The veteran was accepted to an Apprenticeship program for garage door repair, earning $72,800.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided resume assistance, job leads, and interviewing skills. The veteran was hired as a lead worker with a manufacturing company with a starting pay of $23.40 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled and low-income veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided individualized career services including one on one mentoring, resume development, coaching and job leads. The veteran applied and was hired in a retail establishment, as a Stocker at $17.00 per hour.
  • A Vietnam era veteran received assistance with resume development, employment plan, individualized assessment, and job searching from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran secured a position as an Electronics Assembler earning a rate of $18.00 per hour.
  • A veteran who is at risk of becoming homeless was provided guidance with resume writing and interviewing along with housing resource information by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran interviewed and was hired as a General Laborer earning $34,000.00
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who helped the veteran develop a resume and assisted with preparation for a Human Resources Certification Test. The veteran was hired as a HR Specialist with a local company with a starting salary of $147,000.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received career services from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Specialist. The veteran was assisted with job leads and applications and was hired with a Rental Agency with a starting pay of $14.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received career services from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran was assisted with job leads and was hired as a Cashier at a local gas station. Their starting wage is $21.60 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received career services from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran was assisted with job leads and resume development. The veteran was hired as a Chemical Plant and System Operator with a starting wage of $19.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received career services from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran was provided direct job referrals and resume development. The veteran was hired as a Dish Washer earning $14.00 per hour.

  • A service-connected and low-income veteran received assistance by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was assisted with resume development, job searching and direct referrals. The veteran was hired as an Emergency Services Dispatcher with a starting pay of $19.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided a comprehensive assessment, job referrals, and other supportive service referrals. The veteran was hired as a Fleet Operations Manager with a starting salary of $93,000 a year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided job referrals, resume writing, and interview skills. The veteran was hired as a Hostess with a starting salary of $14.00 an hour.
  • A service-connected disabled and low-income veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, federal application assistance, and interviewing skills. The veteran was hired into a Federal Position with a local Healthcare Facility, with a starting salary of $54,000 a year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance with an individualized employment plan, comprehensive assessment, resume building, and job search assistance while working with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran has secured a position as a Territory Sales Executive earning a base pay of $100,000 annually with commission of up to $70,000 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance with resume building, job search assistance and mock interviewing while working with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran has secured a position as an Associate-Client Services earning $50,000 annually.
  • A veteran at-risk of becoming homeless was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a full-time job offer as an Electrical Technician earning $50,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, comprehensive assessment, and an individual employment plan with job referrals. The veteran was offered a position as a Facility Maintenance earning $44,000.00 annually.
  • A veteran who completed the Veteran Readiness & Employment Program (Chapter 31) accepted a position as a Captain after receiving career services assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran will be making $87,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received a full complement of career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran interviewed for and was hired as a Personal Trainer. This is a part-time position with a wage of $22,000.00 per year.
  • A veteran who completed the Veteran Readiness & Employment Program (Chapter 31) worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran received intensive career services to include resume development and direct job referrals. The veteran was thereafter able to secure a position as a Program Specialist with a salary of $69,132.00 per year with full benefit package following probation.
  • A homeless veteran received services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided housing resources and agency referrals as well as small business information. The veteran started their own Ice Cream Vending business with a projected salary of $30,000 a year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services who received resume updates, job development and job referrals relating to their work experience and accepted a position as a Material Handler starting at $39,520.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided guidance on resume development, a comprehensive assessment, and an Individual Employment Plan with job referrals. The veteran accepted an offer as a shipping and receiving clerk with an annual salary of $38,480.00.
  • A low-income veteran with a VA claim pending was assisted by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was assisted with resume development, job search leads, and referrals has excepted a full-time position starting at $31,200 as a Shuttle Driver.
  • A Vietnam Era Veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was assisted with resume and job search assistance. The veteran accepted a full-time position as a Custodian with a starting pay of $27,040 to supplement his income.
  • A service-connected and justice involved veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment services. The veteran was provided job leads and job referrals to assist with their supplemental income desire. The veteran accepted a position with a grocery chain as a Stocker with a starting pay of $11.00 an hour.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was assisted with resume updates, job searching, and job referrals. The veteran was hired at a local window company earning $19.61 per hour with a nice benefit package.
  • A service-connected veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided resume development, job leads and interviewing assistance. The veteran was hired into a Federal Position at a GS-7 Level with a starting salary of $42,000 a year.
