Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. October 2021

• A veteran at risk of becoming homeless was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame at risk for homelessness and accepted a fulltime job offer with benefits as a Distribution Manager of fine foods to wholesale firms with a starting pay of $75,000.00 annually.
• A low-income veteran who learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills, while working with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, found employment as a Window Installer earning $45,760.00 annually.
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing techniques and assistance finding and applying for jobs. The veteran accepted a position as a RS Interior Installation Technician I with an Aerospace company earning $41,600 annually.
• A service-connected disabled veteran who learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills, while working with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, found employment as a Computer Operator/Technician earning $79,100.00 annually.
• A homeless veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, support searching and applying for jobs, and interviewing tips. The veteran accepted a position as an Industrial Cleaner and Painter for $37,4400 annually.
• A low-income veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Specialist. After several applications and assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services, the veteran interviewed with a large food chain and was hired to start their management trainee program. The veteran will start out as a delivery driver while completing the program. This is a full-time position with a starting wage of 12.00 an hour plus tips.
• A service-connected disabled veteran who completed the Veteran Affairs Veteran Readiness and Employment program worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who provided resume development, interviewing skills, job search assistance and referrals. The veteran accepted a job offer as a first-line supervisor at a large retailer starting at $18.00/hour.
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who provided resume development, interviewing skills, and direct referral to job leads. The veteran was hired by a state agency as a Revenue Agent with a starting pay of 21.00 an hour plus benefits.
• A service-connected and low-income veteran was provided services through the Office of Veteran Employment Services where the veteran was provided resume development and direct job referral which led to the veteran being hired as a production assembler earning 16.00 per hour.
• A homeless veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a fulltime job offer with benefits started October 11, 2021 as Security Officer earning $32,000.00 annually.
• A service- connected disabled veteran working with the Office of Veteran Employment Services received guidance on resume writing and interview coaching. The veteran was also provided employment information and job referrals. The veteran was offered a position as an Accountant. The veteran will be earning $54,960.00 annually.
• A service-connected disabled veteran received career planning assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received job referrals for several positions and accepted a position as a Chaplain earning an annual salary of $100,000.00 with a health organization.
• A service-connected disabled veteran received services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services who was provided resume assistance, mock interviews, and job referrals. This veteran has accepted a position as a Human Resources Analyst earning $68,000.00 annually.
• A service-connected disabled veteran received services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services where they were specifically provided resume assistance, resources, job referrals and computer / technology assistance for the hiring process. This veteran has accepted and is employed as a Bus Driver earning $35,880.00 annually.
• A service-connected disabled veteran was provided career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran applied for several positions and gained employment as an Application Support Tech. earning $50,600.00 annually.
• A veteran at risk of becoming homeless was provided several career services while on case management with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was offered a position as a Senior .Net Developer Specialist earning $112,000.00 per year.
• A veteran at risk of becoming homeless worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and applying for jobs. The veteran accepted a position as a Wastewater Operator earning $47,840 annually.
• A low-income and service-connected disabled veteran was given services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran received career guidance, resume assistance, and job board searches. The veteran secured a position as a Quality Control Supervisor. Starting salary is $45,000.00 with a $1,800.00 sign on bonus.
• A homeless and previously incarcerated veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, and job lead assistance as well as housing resources. The veteran accepted a position as a Cook. The veteran will work full-time, earning $31,200 and the ability for almost unlimited overtime.
• A service-connected disabled veteran was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided guidance on resume development and provided a comprehensive assessment and Individual Employment Plan. The veteran accepted an offer as an Electronics Technician earning $64,000 a year.
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who guided the veteran though resume development, interviewing skills, and referral to job leads. The veteran was hired as a Front-Line Operator with a local Energy Company, starting pay is $70,000 a year with benefits.
• A service-connected disabled veteran referred by the VA Veteran Readiness and Employment program was provided individualized case management services to include resume writing and job search assistance by the local Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist staff. The veteran was offered and accepted a Peer Support Specialist position with a pay rate of $17.00 per hour.
• A low-income veteran who worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff was provided Individualized career services. These services included resume development, job leads, and mock interview assistance. The veteran has gained employment as a Property/ Maintenance Manager earning $49,560.00 annually.
• A low-income veteran who was at risk of becoming homeless was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received a job offer earning $80,000.00 per year in a Sales position.
• A homeless veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was also provided resource assistance to mitigate their homelessness. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a fulltime position with benefits as a as a Human Resources Generalist with starting pay of $49,000.00 annually.
• A homeless veteran was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, a comprehensive assessment and individual employment referrals. The veteran was hired as an Automobile Technician earning $31,000.00 annually.
• A service-connected disabled veteran was provided career planning services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services, which led to the veteran securing a professional position as a Claims Specialist with a starting annual salary of $47,000.00 and a full benefit package.
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing assistance, and career guidance. The veteran accepted a position as a Veteran Resource Center Coordinator at a local college earning $47,000 annually.
• A veteran who lacks a high school diploma, worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and apply for jobs. The veteran accepted a position as a Manufacturing Assembler earning $52,000 annually.
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, interviewing skills, and direct referral to job leads which led to them being hired as an Engineering Technician at a local Veterans Facility with a starting wage of 26.50 an hour plus benefits.
• A homeless veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran accepted a full-time job as a Nurse earning $41,000.00 annually.
• A homeless veteran was provided resume assistance and interviewing guidance by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. After providing the veteran with comprehensive assessment, IEP, and information on employment programs the veteran applied and was offered a position as a Heavy Equipment Operator earning $52,000.00 annually.
• A low income and service-connected disabled veteran received services by the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran received career guidance, direct referral, resume assistance, and social media guidance. He accepted a role as a Bar Manager, with a salary of $52,000.00 which does not include tips and private party stipends.
• A veteran at risk of becoming homeless worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing assistance, and assistance finding and apply for jobs. The veteran accepted a position as a Machine Operator earning $37,440 annually.
• A homeless veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services to secure housing and received resume development, interviewing assistance, and assistance finding and apply for jobs. The veteran accepted a position as a Chipper Operator, earning $41,600 annually.
• A low income and risk of homelessness veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, job leads, and SSVF referral. The veteran accepted an offer as an IT Center Manager with a starting wage of $103,000/year +benefits and bonuses including $8000 relocation funds.
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, interviewing skills, and direct referral to job leads. This included VRA referral for eligible federal positions. The veteran was hired as a Legal Customer Service Representative for a federal agency. This is a full-time position with a starting pay of 17.50 an hour plus benefits at a GS-5 level.
• A veteran who completed the VA Veteran Readiness and Employment Program/ Chapter 31 received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided individualized career services including resume development, mock interviewing and job leads. The veteran received an internship and work study opportunity with a local woman's shelter. This is an unpaid work experience/internship but will help the veteran in building their experience and veteran is content with the role.
