Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. February 2022

  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided resume assistance, temporary employment agencies and job board referrals. The veteran secured a position as a third shift Assembler at an hourly rate of $14.50 per hour.
  • A homeless veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a fulltime job offer with benefits as a Production Specialist with a starting pay of $45,000.00 annually.
  • A veteran at risk of becoming homeless was provided with resume and employment search assistance as well with interviewing coaching assistance form the Center for Veteran's Issues and Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was able to overcome their homelessness and acquired a full-time position in manufacturing with a starting wage of $17.50 per hr.
  • A low-income veteran was assisted with developing a cover letter and resume, along with interview techniques by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran accepted a federal opportunity as a Data Specialist / Analyst with a starting salary of $37,440.00 including benefits.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services with the resume and interview process, job search assistance with occupations and establishments. The veteran accepted an offer as a Biomedical Technician, earning $62,670 per year with benefits.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received services from the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran received resume development and basic career planning. A budget was created, and mock interviews were performed, resulting in accepting a position as an Early Childhood Assistant Substitute Teacher with a starting income of $19.80 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled and low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received career guidance, resume assistance, interviewing practice, job search assistance and several job referrals. The veteran was hired at a local manufacturer with a starting wage of $23.78.
  • A low-income and justice-involved veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, interviewing skills, and access to justice-involved resources. The veteran was hired by a labor company as a General Laborer with a starting pay of $16.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development and job referrals and accepted an HR Managers position with a starting wage of $28.00 per hour.
  • A recently separated veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received assistance with job leads, information on returning to school and Internship opportunities. The veteran secured a position as a Loan Officer with a starting pay of $52,000.00 a year plus commission and bonus potential.
  • A homeless veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from Center for Veteran Issues and the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a fulltime job offer with benefits as a Production Specialist with starting pay at $45,000.00 annually.
  • DVOP Hunter - A veteran that was at risk of homelessness accepted a position as a Desktop Support Specialist after receiving career services assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran negotiated a salary of $46,800.00 per year
  • A homeless veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a fulltime job offer as an Assembler and will earn $31,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran participating in the VA Veteran Readiness and Employment program received career planning assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran applied to several positions and accepted a position as a County Veterans Service Officer earning over $31,000.00 annually.
  • A low-income veteran was assisted by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided resume development and connections to job boards, job referrals and in person job fairs. The veteran accepted a position with a starting wage of $16.50 including benefits.
  • DVOP Jome - A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received assistance on their resume, interviewing skills, and job searches. This veteran was able to apply, interview, and was hired in a production role with a starting pay of $16.50 per hour.
  • A Vietnam era and low-income veteran was assisted by the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. With help from the Sheboygan County Veteran Service Office, the veteran was able to secure VA assistance with disability claims and pension benefits. The veteran received resume development and job searching assistance and was offered a production position earning $21.00 an hour with 10-hour shifts and a 4-day work week.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume reviews, benefit information and connections, and job leads. The veteran accepted a position as a Systems Engineer. Starting pay is $62.00 an hour.
  • A justice-involved and at risk of homelessness veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist developing an Individualized Employment Plan, resume, and job leads. The veteran started working for a local manufacturing company for $19.00 an hour as a Packer.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was a Chapter 31 referral worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. This veteran received assistance with developing an Individualized Employment Plan, resumes, Letters of Qualifications, and interviewing assistance. The veteran accepted a as a Claims Representative / GS-5 position with a federal agency. Their starting pay is $42,000.00 a year plus federal benefits.
  • A veteran that was at risk of becoming homeless was provided with a comprehensive assessment, Individual Employment Plan, and networking assistance with the Center for Veteran's Issues. In addition, veteran was also assisted from the Office of veteran Employment services with employment search. The veteran was hired as a Machine operator earning $15.00 per hr.
  • An unemployed more than 27 weeks veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided resume review, interviewing techniques and job leads. The veteran has accepted a position as a Director of Sales and negotiated a salary of $100,000.00 per year and a full benefit package following a probationary period.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided intensive career services and was thereafter able to secure a position as a Senior Enterprise Architect with a salary of $100,000.00 per year with full benefit package.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, UI assistance and interviewing skills. The veteran accepted a position as an Over the Road Trucker earning a varied salary depending on load.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received individualized career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided resume development and job leads. The veteran was offered a position as a Secondary Operator Technician for $17.50 per hour
  • A veteran with a service-connected disability and enrolled in the VA Veteran Employment and Readiness program/Chapter 31 completed a comprehensive assessment and an Individual Employment Plan with The Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was also provided job referrals and other supportive services. The veteran has accepted an offer as a Surgical Nurse, earning $65,000 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume and letter of qualification development along with job leads. The veteran applied for a state position and was hired as a Purchasing Agent-Senior. Starting pay is $35.00 per hour plus full benefits.
  • A spouse of a 100% service-connected disabled veteran received assistance with resume development, employment plan, referrals, workshops, and individualized assessment from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The client secured a position as an Accounting Assistant at an hourly rate of $24.00 per hour
  • A homeless veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a fulltime job offer as a Construction Specialist with a starting pay of $30,000 annually.
  • An at risk of homeless HVRP referred veteran was assisted with employment services, an Individual Employment Plan and information assistance by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was hired as an Assembly Worker earning $14.00 hour.
  • A recently separated veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development and career guidance. The veteran was hired as a Miner. This is a full-time permanent position with a wage of $56,160.00 per year with benefits and the opportunity for overtime hours.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received guidance on interviewing and job searching. This veteran also received several job referrals and eventually interviewed and accepted an offer of $56,200.00 annually as a Computer Programming Technician.
  • A low-income veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received a job offer as a Nurse Practitioner earning $131,100.00 per year.
  • A veteran at risk of becoming homeless was assisted by the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was provided referrals to the CVSO for a gas card, and VA claim assistance. The referral with Vets Net provided rent and financial assistance. The veteran was also assisted with resume and interviewing skills. The veteran secured a position in Sales and Marketing at $32/hr.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was assisted with a resume and interviewing, along with job leads. The veteran was hired as a Material Handler with a starting pay of $20.00 an hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services including job leads and resume development. Following an interview, the veteran was offered a position as a Secondary Operator Technician earning $17.50 an hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran participating in the VA Veteran Readiness and Employment program was referred to the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received a comprehensive assessment, housing assistance referral and job leads. The veteran accepted a Federal Agency position as a Human Resources Assistant (Military), GS-0203-8 earning $49,549.00 annually.
  • A Vietnam-era veteran who was at risk for homelessness worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received an Individualized Employment Plan, resume development, job referrals and leads. The veteran was hired and is working in one of the distribution warehouses as a General Laborer, starting pay of $16.00 per hour, with a $3,000.00 sign-on bonus.
