Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. June 2022

  • A homeless veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who received resume assistance and coaching on the interview process along with housing resources. With the assistance of the Center for Veteran Issues and Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, the veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a fulltime opportunity as a Meat Cutter professional with a national food chain with a starting salary of $40,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless and justice involved veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided the veteran with housing assistance along with resume development and interviewing techniques. The veteran was hired in a Manufacturing role with a starting wage of $19.00 per hour, $2.50 per hour shift differential and a $1,500.00 sign on bonus.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received several individualized career services with the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included job leads, a comprehensive assessment, an employment plan, resume review, and other employment assistance. The veteran was hired as a Computer Operator IV with a starting wage of $28.40 per hour.
  • A justice-involved and low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who was provided assistance with resume development and interviewing skills. The veteran interviewed and was hired at a local cheese factory as a General Laborer with a starting wage of $20.90 an hour plus shift differential.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided individualized career services including one on one mentoring, resume development, career coaching and job leads. The veteran was hired full time at a diesel repair shop as a Mechanic Apprentice earning $20.00 per hour.
  • A justice-involved and low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided individualized career services including much one-on-one mentoring, resume development, coaching and job leads. The veteran applied, interviewed, and was hired as a Welder / Fabricator trainee at a wage of $17.00 per hour.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, interview preparation and job leads. The veteran interviewed for and accepted an offer as a Case Manager with a local Non-Profit. Their starting pay is $45,000.00 a year.
  • A veteran at risk of becoming homeless was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a fulltime position as a General Laborer with a trucking company and will earn $34,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services and the Center for Veteran Issues. The veteran received resume development, a comprehensive assessment, and an individual employment with job referrals. The veteran was hired as a Sales and Marketing Specialist with a local furniture company earning $34,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran participating in the VA Veteran Readiness and Employment /Chapter 31 program received career planning assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran applied to several positions and accepted a position as a Driver Recruiter, earning $37,400.00 annually.
  • A transitioning service member worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided resume development and job leads. The veteran was hired as an Assistant Case Manager with a Non-Profit earning $15.25 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and VA Chapter 31 Program- Veteran Readiness and Employment. The veteran was provided resume development and several job leads. The veteran was able to secure an internship with a local Police Department as a Forensics Specialist with a starting pay of $12.43 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was given numerous career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included resume assistance and interviewing preparation. The veteran was hired into a state position as a Recreation Leader with a starting wage of $26.00 per hour.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, skill development, career planning and interview assistance. The veteran was hired at a local packaging company as a General Laborer with a starting wage of $17.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected veteran who completed the VA Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness & Employment Program was given employment guidance from the staff in the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume assistance and direct job referrals. The veteran was hired as a Customer Service Representative with a starting wage of $40,160.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received individualized career services from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist where the veteran applied for a position at a local elementary school and was offered a position earning $19.85 per hour ($39,700 annually).
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was struggling with homelessness worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received housing assistance as well as resume and job searching assistance. The veteran was hired with a local window company earning $16.40 per hour.
  • A homeless and justice-involved veteran received numerous types of assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff that encompassed multiple partner agency referrals for assistance as well as resume development and employment recommendations. The veteran was hired by a local manufacturer with a starting wage of $18.35 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received resume development, housing assistance and partner referrals from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran interviewed and accepted a position with a local healthcare provider as a Patient Access Representative with a starting wage of $19.50 per hour.
  • A low-income veteran received employment assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided individualized career services including one-on-one mentoring, resume development, coaching and employment opportunities to apply for. The veteran was hired as a full time Law Enforcement Officer earning $52,000.00 per year.
  • A veteran at risk of becoming homeless was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a full time job offer as a Retail Associate with a candy company and will earn $33,000.00 annually.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided career assistance, an employment plan, and job leads. The veteran interviewed for, and accepted a position as Designer with a starting wage of $46,000 annually.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received assistance with career guidance, job referrals, and interview assistance. The veteran was also provided referrals to other supportive agencies. The veteran was hired as a Security Guard with a starting wage of $21.00 an hour and a $2,500.00 sign-on bonus.
  • A justice involved and at risk of becoming homeless veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided a comprehensive assessment, resume assistance, and referrals to other organizations and veteran agencies. The veteran interviewed and was hired as a Painter with a starting wage of $15.50 per hour.
  • A veteran at risk of becoming homeless was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran prevented being evicted due to the help of OVES and CVI and accepted a fulltime job offer as a Retail Associate and will earn $30,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who completed the Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness and Employment Program worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who guided the veteran through individualized career services. The veteran was thereafter able to secure a position as a Veterans Outreach and Recovery Personnel with a salary of $52,000.00 per year with full benefit package.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services where they received resume development and job leads. The veteran was hired as a technician III. This is a full-time permanent position with a wage of $70,000.00 per year with benefits and the opportunity for overtime hours.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance with resume building, job search and interview assistance while working with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran has secured a position as a Maintenance Technician earning $48,000 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services where they were able to receive resume assistance, interviewing skills and job leads. The veteran interviewed and was hired as a Sales Representative with a starting wage of $17.00 per hour plus commission and a $2,500.00 sign-on bonus.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided the veteran individualized career services that included one on one mentoring, resume development, coaching and job leads. The veteran was hired as a Corporate Trainer earning approximately $85,000 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was homeless worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services where they were able to receive resume development, job referrals, and partner connections for housing resources. The veteran was hired as a Maintenance Mechanic with a starting wage of $25.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided the veteran resume development, interviewing preparation and job search assistance. The veteran accepted a position in the healthcare field out of state and will earn $25.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received career assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran received a number of services that consisted of resume development, job leads and direct referrals. The veteran was hired into a Mechanical Supervisor Role with a local Bio-Medical company with a starting wage of $35.00 per hour.
