DWD Celebrates Career and Technical Education Month at West Bend School District

WEST BEND – Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary-designee Caleb Frostman joined officials from West Bend School District and community partners to celebrate Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month at West Bend East and West High Schools on Monday.

"I applaud the West Bend School District and its community partners for understanding the value of strong career and technical education and the impact a quality education brings to our children, our community and our economy," said Secretary-designee Caleb Frostman. "We encourage students to take charge of their careers by offering them educational opportunities in high-demand industries that may guide them towards a future career."

CTE provides students with career and technical education to aid them in career exploration and allows students to gain relevant skills so they are college- and career-ready upon graduating. DWD's CTE grants incentivize school districts to offer high-quality career and technical education programs that mitigate workforce shortages in key industries and occupations. The grants reimburse up to $1,000 for each student in a school district to earn an approved industry-recognized certification.

The West Bend School District has been an active participant in both the CTE Incentive Grant and DWD's Youth Apprenticeship program as part of its career and technical education.

"Career and Technical Education courses help the students of West Bend East and West High Schools prepare for a successful future — whether that includes post-secondary education or moving straight into the workforce" said Superintendent Don Kirkegaard. "These courses guide students as they discover their strengths and interests and then apply them for a successful future. We thank the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development for its support in encouraging Career and Technical Education in high schools."
