DWD and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Sign New, Hybrid Data Analyst Apprenticeship Standards Contract

Analytics Apprenticeship helps Children's Hospital build IT talent pipeline

MILWAUKEE – The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) – Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards (BAS), the Wisconsin Technical College System, and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin unveiled a new Data Analyst Apprenticeship on Friday, Nov. 16, signing apprenticeship standards that open a door of opportunity for many in the Milwaukee area.

"Under Governor Walker's leadership, Wisconsin continues to advance innovative talent development strategies to equip workers with the skills needed for jobs in our growing IT economy," BAS Chief of Field Operations, Joshua Johnson, said. "Thanks to our partnership with IT professionals across the state, we will celebrate the launch of a new, hybrid Registered Apprenticeship training model to help employers further develop their workforce and fill the ongoing need for highly skilled IT professionals."

DWD provides dozens of apprenticeship opportunities in the construction, industrial, service and utility trades and in 2018 alone has expanded opportunities into new fields like farming, finance and health care.

“At Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, we recognize that meaningful employment is a fundamental driver to everyone’s overall health and we work daily to create those opportunities,” said Adam Cook, Vice President of Health Management Operations at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. “This apprenticeship will help us build a strong pipeline of talent and effectively deliver high-quality analytics in support of operations and health care delivery.”

DWD's Registered Apprenticeship program, which was created in 1911 and has served as a national model for generations, annually provides value-added training for as many as 11,000 apprentices and 2,500 employers across the state in over 200 occupations.

"CVTC looks forward to the opportunity to serve the employers in the state of Wisconsin by offering the online Paid Related Instruction (PRI) for the Data Analyst apprenticeship," said Jeff Sullivan, Dean of Apprenticeship, Manufacturing, Engineering, and IT at Chippewa Valley Technical College. "Our discussions with regional employers, in addition to the work done throughout the state, highlights the need for the Data Analyst apprenticeship in a variety of fields, including manufacturing, information technology and healthcare. It is encouraging that we can contribute to the field by assisting new apprentices in the development of skills needed in a variety of industries."

Enhancement Strategies (WAGE$) grant, a $5 million American Apprenticeship Initiative grant awarded to DWD by the US Department of Labor. The purpose of the WAGE$ grant is to expand apprenticeship opportunities into three new areas-IT, Advanced Manufacturing, and Healthcare.
