DWD is Making It Even Easier for Veterans to Find Jobs On Job Center of Wisconsin

Madison – The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has developed innovative ways to improve service delivery to military veterans who utilize the Job Center of Wisconsin (JCW).

"We want to advance our veterans into the workforce and provide a full range of employment services to the people who have served our country, especially those who are facing significant barriers to employment due to their service-related impairment," said Gary Meyer, director of DWD's Office of Veteran Employment Services.

The improvements made to the JCW website allow veterans to register and include information regarding service-connected disability. Registered veterans with a service connected disability of 30 percent or more will be able to share information needed to be considered for state civil service hiring preferences.

The changes implemented by the Office of Veteran Employment Services created a better hiring tool on the JCW website to ensure that all qualified veterans have a greater chance of being considered and interviewed for state jobs. Moreover, qualified veterans may be considered for state agency jobs without having to compete or take civil service assessments if they have: (1) served in the armed forces, (2) have a service-connected disability rating of 30 percent or more and (3) are not currently employed in a permanent position with the State of Wisconsin.
