DWD, Northcentral Technical College Partner to Bring Mobile Job Center to Northern Wisconsin

Collaboration will invest and deploy high-tech, mobile job center to communities where brick-and-mortar facilities are not established

MADISON – Today, the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and Northcentral Technical College (NTC) in Wausau announced a partnership that will deploy a high-tech mobile job center to northern Wisconsin communities where brick-and-mortar job centers are not established. The mobile job center is made possible in part due to DWD's investment of $250,000 to fund the purchase of and enhancements to a vehicle that will provide all of the traditional services available at DWD's statewide network of job centers including resume and interview preparation assistance, job leads and job coaching, JobCenterofWisconsin.com registration and more.

DWD Secretary Ray Allen released the following statement on the partnership:

"Wisconsinites want to work, and with more people working than ever before and our state's unemployment rate at an all-time low, we need innovative approaches to connect more people with opportunity across the state," Secretary Allen said. "This collaboration with Northcentral Technical College represents an important step to expand our reach in northern Wisconsin and deliver vital employment and training services to job seekers and employers across the Northwoods."

Northcentral Technical College President Lori Weyers provided the following statement:

“We are proud to continue our partnership with DWD and local businesses through this new venture in support of the manufacturing sector,” said Lori Weyers, President, Northcentral Technical College. “By building pathways to higher education for special populations and expanding opportunities for advanced training in manufacturing, we are closing the skills gap and ensuring a vibrant future for our region.”

DWD is utilizing $250,000 in federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) training grant dollars to help fund this high-tech, mobile job center, which is expected to be operational later this year. The North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board will be a partner.
