Worker Connection-Career Navigator Stacie met the participant during her recurring visits to St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter, The Micah Center & Wellspring. The participant recently moved back to Green Bay from Chicago and was pregnant and homeless. Stacie assisted the participant by bringing her to interviews and guiding her through various community resources, including the Green Bay Diaper Event, the Woman, Infants, and Children program, and housing-Integrated Community Solutions. Through a collaborative community effort, the participant found stable housing and works as a personal care worker at an assisted living center. The Worker Connection participant shared that "the Worker Connection Program and Career Navigator Stacie have helped me tremendously. I can't thank Stacie enough for all her help and resources."
"People are looking at the possibility that their futures can hold in a new light. This supplemental experience, collaborating with the work we do in our own program, has enhanced the lives, outlook, and mindset of the people its mission seeks to serve. It is a gift to have more than one voice working for good in a person's life, and likewise, a gift to have agencies collaborating for the common goal of improving the lives of the people they serve by helping those clients, guests or participants help themselves. The Career Navigator program does just that, and it has a high probability to take any program whose mission it is to work with people who are looking to improve their professional lives to a new, growing place."
A Worker Connection participant, who is also a veteran, was referred to the Worker Connection Program by Sirona Recovery while he was in transitional housing. He needed employment assistance to find a position with no heavy lifting and one located along a bus route. Worker Connection staff assisted him with the Driver's License Recovery process, resume development, and job searching along with connecting him to the Center for Veteran Issues for housing assistance. With help from the Worker Connection Program, the participant is now working at a company that provides him transportation assistance. "I really appreciate all [the] support and service your program has provided me to help me find gainful employment. It has given me a great opportunity to get my life back on track. Thanks again and God bless you and your service!"
"Over the past 6 weeks, we have had the opportunity to work with the career navigator specialists at our day centers. The specialists have been working with over 20 guests these six weeks. They have been able to identify our guests needs, job priorities, unique skills and ultimately able to place our guests with employment within days of first meeting them. The specialists have the skills and employment partners to quickly match our guests with employment within a day or two of first connecting {them} with full-time or part-time {employment}. The specialists are meeting people where they want to be met, always in person at our centers, the library, or other locations that are comfortable for our guests. The career navigator specialists also help with resumes and career building skill training to allow for people to best set up their career success. Continuing success of the career navigator program will only come with more time, effort and allowability of the specialists to meet people where they feel comfortable".
"When I moved to an emergency shelter, I had no job and no future plans. Elisa is my career navigator and she helped me build my career goals. She referred me to the WIOA program that has accepted me and now I'm going to college to get an associate degree. I set up new plans and goals in life and I feel my story is not over yet. Besides educational plans Elisa is very helpful in finding me a place to stay and suggests different kinds of social connection programs that can help me build new connections in this community being an immigrant. Moreover, Elisa is ready to help me with anything I may need. I’m very happy I met her and I appreciate her help."
