Employers

Under Wisconsin Statute 103.155, employers and lodging establishments are required to provide training regarding identifying and preventing human trafficking crimes to certain employees. The training must be provided within 60 days of starting employment and every 2 years thereafter. The training must be at least 20 minutes in length and be in person or include an interactive component. At a minimum, the training must cover the following:

  • The definitions of human trafficking and the commercial exploitation of children.
  • Guidance on how to identify individuals who are most at risk for human trafficking.
  • Guidance on how to identify the signs of human trafficking and how to identify individuals potentially engaged in the act of trafficking.
  • As relevant, the difference between labor trafficking and sex trafficking specific to the hotel and motel sector.
  • As relevant, guidance on the role of hospitality employees in reporting and responding to human trafficking.
  • The contact information of appropriate agencies, including the toll-free telephone number of the National Human Trafficking Hotline or the telephone numbers of the appropriate local law enforcement agencies.

DWD has created these training resources and made them available free of charge in accordance with Wis. Stat. 103.155(4). The department's training video and interactive quiz are designed to satisfy the training requirements under Wis. Stat. 103.155.
