The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene’s WisCon Program, as part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Labor, currently offers on-site S&H consultation services to assist Wisconsin medium-small employers in meeting the obligations and responsibilities covered under the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act.
The UW-Madison / Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene provides these Safety and Health consultation services free of charge, including IH monitoring, to Wisconsin's medium-small business establishments through the SLH's WisCon Safety & Health Consultation Program (small business establishments defined as 250 employees or less.). WisCon S&H services include:
WisCon's client services are completely voluntary, cost-free, and confidential. WisCon provides their S&H services by employer initiated request only. WisCon has safety specialists and industrial hygienists available to provide statewide services.
Client service records are protected by Federal law against public disclosure and involves no penalties or enforcement action. The employer client's only obligation is to correct any identified serious hazards within a reasonable time-frame. Imminent danger (IDLH) situations identified must be corrected immediately.
WisCon"s safety specialists and industrial hygienists are staffed and operated by the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Ninety percent of WisCon's operational funding is provided by a grant from the US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and WisCon is prohibited from sharing their data with OSHA enforcement.
