Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is viewed by many as a 21st century solution to a paper-intensive system of data exchange. Worker's Compensation recognizes the advantages of EDI, and considers it an integral part of exchanging claim data with insurers and self-insurers.
This overview of EDI provides an insight into the manner in which the Worker's Compensation Division in Wisconsin has embraced this solution. To get started with EDI, access information covering frequently asked questions and technical reference materials view the EDI Resources listed below.
Currently Wisconsin exclusively uses an FTP process , administered by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, for the transmisson of files.
Wisconsin does not accept ANSI transmissions.
Yes, Wisconsin sends electronic acknowledgments back for all transmissions, both 148 and A49. These acknowledgements are in the Flat File format, which is the only format that Wisconsin accepts.
Sending daily, weekly, or several times per week is fine. If you have a claim to report you must transmit at least once per week in order to meet our 14 day reporting requirement. We download data Monday through Friday in the early morning and immediately load this into the database. We then send back acknowledgments the same day.
Please email your request to the EDI Coordinator.
