MADISON – The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) announced today a new grant opportunity aimed at increasing economic opportunity for students in Southeastern Wisconsin school districts. The Regional Career and Education Equipment Program grant provides career and technical education equipment to encourage innovative solutions that address the state's skilled worker shortage.
Districts in Kenosha, Racine, Walworth, and Milwaukee counties are eligible to apply for $5,000 to $30,000 in funding from the $172,000 grant. Funds can be used for career and technical education training equipment, infrastructure, and renovations.
"This grant will help train students in an area where skilled workers are in short supply," said DWD Secretary Amy Pechacek. "It will also speed students' transition into the workforce and prepare them for stable careers and reduce higher education costs by providing dual enrollment credits, industry-endorsed certificates, and technical endorsements on their high school diplomas."
Funds for this grant are part of a 2020 donation by the IKEA US Community Foundation to address workforce needs in Southeastern Wisconsin that focused on improving racial equality in employment.
Applications for the Regional Career and Education Equipment Program are due by 3 p.m. CST on May 9, 2024. Applications must be submitted by email to RegionalCareerEduEquipPgm@dwd.wisconsin.gov. For more information, visit the Employment & Training website.
