BLS Releases State Level Job Opening and Labor Turnover Survey Data for September 2021

MADISON – The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) today released the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey data for the month of September 2021.

In brief, the JOLTS data for Wisconsin showed:

• Wisconsin hires rose over the month to 123,000. Illinois and Iowa also experienced month-over-month increases.
• Job openings in Wisconsin decreased over the month to 205,000. The United States, Michigan, and Minnesota saw decreases over the month as well.
• Wisconsin quits declined over the month to 90,000. All of Wisconsin's border states also experienced a month-over-month decline.

Today's state JOLTS release follows yesterday's release of state Current Employment Statistics (CES) and Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) which showed that Wisconsin's unemployment rate of 3.2 percent ranked 11th lowest nationally and Wisconsin's labor force participation rate of 66.4 percent ranked 9th best nationally.
