DWD Announces New Deputy Secretary: Pamela McGillivray

MADISON –Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary-designee Amy Pechacek today announced that Pamela McGillivray will succeed Robert Cherry, Jr. as Deputy Secretary July 12.

McGillivray has served as DWD's Chief Legal Counsel since March 2019, during which time she has managed DWD's Office of Legal Counsel and has overseen numerous high-level agency projects and personnel matters. Prior to joining DWD, Pam worked as an attorney at the Department of Health Services, advising the agency on personnel disputes, civil rights, and contract-related matters, and a partner/litigation attorney in private practice, representing individuals and non-profit organizations seeking to remedy discrimination in employment and in places of public accommodation. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School and received her undergraduate degree from UW-Madison in history.

"DWD's programs and services are at the forefront of ensuring Wisconsin's economic recovery and success," Pechacek said. "Pam's broad substantive knowledge and experience, as well as her passion for promoting diversity, equity and fairness, make her an excellent fit in leading our agency's operations during this very important time in our state's history."

Cherry has been appointed as CEO of Partner4work, the workforce development board for Allegheny County, Pennsylvania beginning July 26. His last day at DWD will be July 9.

"Rob has led our agency's operations with a calm mind and steady hand through quite the unpredictable year," Pechacek said. "We are grateful for his service and wish him and his family well as he brings his talent and experience to Pittsburg."

Jennifer Wakerhauser will assume the role of Chief Legal Counsel. Wakerhauser has served as DWD's Deputy Legal Counsel since 2018. She previously worked as an attorney for the Department of Children and Families and Dane County District Court. She graduated from Marquette University Law School and received her undergraduate degree from UW-Madison.
