Wausau – The Department of Workforce Development (DWD), Northcentral Technical College (NTC), North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board, and Northwest Wisconsin Workforce Investment Board celebrated the launch of the new Advanced Manufacturing Mobile Lab last Tuesday.
"We are proud to be the sector champion for advanced manufacturing," said Lori Weyers, President, Northcentral Technical College. "By partnering with our local businesses, DWD, K12 Districts and local workforce boards, we are ensuring a pipeline of skilled workers through expanded access to training in this state-of-the-art mobile lab."
The Advanced Manufacturing Mobile Lab is a self-contained training lab designed to deliver an advance manufacturing training curriculum. As a climate-controlled unit, it is equipped with wireless technology and will provide a space where instructors can teach and train students and job seekers in advance manufacturing skills.
Advance manufacturing is the use of innovative technology to construct new products and create better efficiencies within existing products. It can include production activities that depend on information, automation, computation, software, sensing, and networking.
The lab will travel to area high schools, businesses and Department of Correctional Institutions to delivery high-tech training to students and job seekers.
The approximate cost of the mobile lab is $500,000, with DWD and NTC each paying $250,000. The Advanced Manufacturing Mobile Lab is partially funded by WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) funding through the U.S. Department of Labor.
