The Herald Times Reporter has crowned the Manitowoc Job Center as the winner of best employment services for its 2018 Best of the Lakeshore Readers' Choice Award.
Herald Times Reporter readers voted for their favorite local businesses in six categories: Manitowoc 101, restaurants, health, entertainment, shopping, and services. The Manitowoc County Job Center, an affiliate job center for the Department of Workforce Development, took home the winning title, beating out two other finalists in employment services.
"We are very honored to be voted the 'Best of the Lakeshore 2018' and to serve this community," said Jolene Wilkens, the center's Employment and Training Supervisor.
So far in 2018, the job center, located at 3733 Dewey St., has helped an average of 283 people per month with employment-related assistance. Its services include resume development, job application assistance, free job search, interview practice, resume workshops, job search strategies, National Career Readiness Testing, and RESEA re-employment services. The job center also provides an open space for employers to connect with community job seekers.
Manitowoc County Job Center partners with DWD's Division of Vocation Rehabilitation to assist individuals with disabilities in gaining and maintaining employment. Moreover, it provides Office of Veterans Services assistance to qualifying veterans and their spouses, as well as offers case management assistance through WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) and TAA (Trade Adjustment Assistance).
The Manitowoc County Job Center will begin a new initiative to better serve both job seekers and employers by hosting Monthly Multi-Employer Hiring Events beginning November 6. Employers interested in participating may call Heather Krogh at 920-683-4772 or e-mail Heather.Krogh@dwd.wisconsin.gov for details.
