Awards were presented at today's Future Wisconsin Summit in Madison
MADISON – Today, Northwest Hardwoods of Onalaska was recognized for their efforts to hire and train individuals with disabilities at the Future Wisconsin Summit held at the Monona Terrace. The event was organized and hosted by Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC).
Northwest Hardwoods was an Organizational Honoree and has been a long-term partner of the Department of Workforce Development's (DWD) Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), hiring several DVR consumers over the years. Under the leadership of General Manager Mark Wells, Northwest Hardwoods works with Aurora Vocational Services, a DVR partner, to hire individuals with disabilities. Individuals are placed in fully integrated employment settings, and receive competitive wages with room for career advancement.
David Brann, a former DVR consumer, was an Individual Honoree, and recognized for his strong work ethic and contributions to several employers, including Lucille in downtown Madison. David's determination to overcome all obstacles to employment and his strong work ethic led to the recognition.
"Wisconsin employers and individuals like the ones recognized at today's Future Wisconsin Summit with Job Honor Awards epitomize what Wisconsin is all about – providing a business environment and workforce programs that ensure that everyone who wants a job, can find a job, and overcome obstacles that may stand between them and gainful employment," DWD Secretary Ray Allen said. "I applaud all of the employers and individuals honored today, with special recognition for Northwest Hardwoods and Mr. David Brann for their contributions to Wisconsin's workforce and economy."
