12 graduates from Children's Hospital part of record number of Project SEARCH graduates
MILWAUKEE– Today, Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Deputy Secretary Georgia Maxwell joined other state and local partners in highlighting the most recent class of Project SEARCH program graduates from the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. The 2016-2017 graduating class marks the sixth class of graduates from the Children's Hospital.
"The success that these Project SEARCH participants continue to have would not be possible without their hard work and dedication and employers that recognize the value that an inclusive workforce brings to their business," Deputy Secretary Maxwell said. "I would like to thank and congratulate the 12 graduates that were recognized here today, and thank all of our Project SEARCH host businesses, like the Children's Hospital, who have opened their doors to the program and provided an opportunity for these individuals to put themselves on a path to continued career success."
In 2014, Governor Walker made significant investments in Project SEARCH when he launched his year of A Better Bottom Line initiative in support of overcoming obstacles to employment for individuals with disabilities.
Project SEARCH is a 9-12-month internship program administered through a partnership which includes local school districts, a community business, DWD's Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, and local community care organizations. Each day, students report to the host business, learn employability skills in the classroom and job skills through three or four different internship rotations throughout the school year.
