MADISON – Today, the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene announced that the rate of total injuries reported by employers in 2015 declined from 4 incidents per 100 workers in 2013 and 2014 to 3.6 in 2015. Incident rates declined or stayed the same in all occupational categories, with construction showing a decline from 5.5 per 100 to 4.7. Manufacturing also showed a decline from 5 per 100 to 4.8. Only 2.6 incidents per 100 workers resulted in lost time in the manufacturing sector in 2015.
"Today's announcement showing the overall decline in workplace injuries and illnesses in Wisconsin, combined with the recent announcement that Wisconsin employers will experience an overall 3.19% worker's compensation rate reduction, including a 5% reduction for the manufacturing sector, prove that Governor Walker's commitment to workplace safety is paying off," Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Ray Allen said. "By working proactively with employees and employers, we are developing strategies to reduce workplace incidents and illnesses, lowering the cost of doing business in Wisconsin and keeping Wisconsin workers safer."
