GREEN BAY – More than 700 job seekers connected with over 140 employers looking to fill nearly 3,000 job openings at the Department of Workforce Development's (DWD) Bay Area Career Expo on Tuesday, October 25 at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay.
Unlike most traditional job fairs, Career Expos are open only to employers with current job openings and job seekers who are ready to work, providing job seekers and employers an opportunity to connect face-to-face, participate in in-person discussion and create lasting first impressions for both parties.
"DWD was honored to help so many area employers and job seekers connect at the Bay Area Career Expo," said DWD Secretary Ray Allen. "Hundreds of quality, work-ready job seekers came prepared to meet hiring managers with participating employers to find a job or start a new career."
Registered Bay Area Career Expo businesses included: Ariens Company, Faith Technologies, N.E.W. Plastics Corporation, Time Warner Cable, UPS and West Corporation. Good-paying entry level through advanced job openings were available in manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, human resources, customer service, sales and many other industries and occupations, some paying more than $30 an hour.
The Bay Family of Companies' HR Business Partner Kate Merriam said, “We were excited to meet with job seeking members of the Greater Green Bay Community at the Career Expo on Tuesday. The Department of Workforce Development works very hard to connect area employers to job seekers and vice versa. Their commitment to their mission is impressive and greatly appreciated.”
The Department of Workforce Development honors priority of service for U.S. military veterans, including limiting job seeker attendance to veterans for the first half hour during Career Expos.
