WEST ALLIS – On Wednesday, October 19, a total of 671 job seekers connected with 114 employers looking to fill openings at the Milwaukee Career Expo at the Wisconsin State Fair Park - Expo Center. A total of 15 workforce partner agencies volunteered at the event, which was coordinated by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) in partnership with Employ Milwaukee.
DWD was honored to partner with Employ Milwaukee to help employers and job seekers connect at the Milwaukee Career Expo," said DWD Deputy Secretary Georgia Maxwell, who visited the event and met with employers and job seekers. "Participating employers were pleased with the number of quality job candidates who attended the event."
Examples of participating employers included: Aurora Health Care, AT&T, Briggs & Stratton Corporation, LindenGrove Communities, Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Outpost Natural Foods, Pitney Bowes, Quad/Graphics and Time Warner Cable. Good-paying jobs were available in manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, information technology, human resources, customer service, sales and many other occupations with hourly wages of up to $30 per hour.
"I found the Milwaukee Career Expo posting on social media, and I am so glad that I took steps to register," said Sean Waiss, a Racine area information technology professional and U.S. Army veteran. "I greatly appreciated receiving guidance from DWD staff related to researching participating employers' job openings to identify opportunities that match my skills sets, as well priority of service for military veterans. The event enabled me to make in-person connections with six key employers with positions that require my qualifications and experience."
Follow-up surveys indicate employers intend to pursue hundreds of candidates they met at the expo, including dozens of conditional job offers they made onsite.
