Deputy Secretary Maxwell and Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson make multiple stops highlighting DWD's Registered Apprenticeship program
MADISON – Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Deputy Secretary Georgia Maxwell and Assistant Deputy Secretary Dave Anderson visited three employers on Monday July 11, highlighting DWD's successful partnership with different industries through the state's Registered Apprenticeship program. The stops were part of Governor Walker's Cabinet on the Road tour through Western Wisconsin.
"Governor Walker has made talent development a top priority since taking office, and programs like Registered Apprenticeship are at the center of that strategy," Deputy Secretary Maxwell said. "By gathering information from our stakeholders including apprentices, educators and employers, we continuously improve these vital programs."
At the end of 2015, roughly 10,000 individuals were participating in Wisconsin's Registered Apprenticeship program. Apprentices work and train from day one, which helps employers address the shortage of skilled workers and their ongoing need for a highly skilled workforce.
"The Registered Apprenticeship program provides workers the chance to earn while they learn and allows employers to invest in their skilled workforce by providing training and a clear career latter that promotes upward mobility," Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson said. "I encourage all employers to contact DWD and consider this proven talent development program."
Today, DWD made three stops as part of Governor Walker's Cabinet on the Road tour:
