DWD official delivers remarks at Progress Lakeshore event at Mishicot High School, stresses importance of Youth Workforce strategies
MADISON – Assistant Deputy Secretary Dave Anderson delivered remarks at the Business Education Partnership Summit in Mishicot on Tuesday and stressed the importance of utilizing the many DWD programs that provide youth with an early opportunity to consider and experience a wide range of career opportunities.
"Under Governor Walker's leadership, DWD has transitioned from a service agency to a talent development agency, and at the center of that strategy are programs available to businesses to engage youth at an early age," Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson said. "Programs such as Youth Apprenticeship, High School Pupil grants offered through Governor Walker's Blueprint for Prosperity initiative and the statewide Academic and Career Planning (ACP) program allow schools and businesses to work with youth at an early age and collaborate in an effort to provide youth with the tools to make informed career decisions."
The Business Education Partnership Summit was held at Mishicot High School, one of 25 schools that piloted the ACP program in the 2015-2016 school year. The event was designed for local businesses to learn more about the ACP program as well as other workforce training programs designed to assist with developing a pipeline of skilled talent to fill current and future workforce vacancies.
The summit was a partnership between the School District of Mishicot, Progress Lakeshore, the Manitowoc County Chamber and the New Manufacturing Alliance.
