Blackhawk Technical College
Diesel and heavy equipment technicians repair and maintain transportation equipment, such as heavy trucks, buses, locomotives, ships, and automobiles; construction equipment such as bulldozers, cranes, and road graders; and farm equipment such as tractors and combines. Many technicians perform a broad range of repairs from engines to electrical systems. Others specialize in repairs such as fuel and starting systems. Diesel and Heavy equipment technicians use a variety of computerized testing equipment to pinpoint and analyze malfunctions as well as numerous power and hand tools to perform repairs. The Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technician Program is a two-year program providing job entry skills in service and repair of transportation, construction, industrial, and farm equipment. Before admission to the Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technician program, applicants must first pass the S/P2 Safety and Pollution Test. Federal law requires safety training before students can enter the work area.

BTC Career Services helps students explore careers, prepare for the job application process and find current opportunities. BTC offers resume writing, mock interviews, job search techniques, and internships, when available.
Blackhawk Technical College provides free tutoring services to credit students enrolled at the college. We offer online, open lab and peer tutoring. Also counseling services are available.

Refunds are processed according to the Wisconsin Technical College System Refund Policy for program, material and activity fees. To receive refunds, you must formally request refunds from Registration and Records by notifying them of your intent to drop a class(es) or completely withdraw from all classes. Requests for refunds must be received during the same term of enrollment. Refund requests are time-sensitive as each day that passes may affect the amount of refund you are eligible.

MAKING SENSE OF THE EMPLOYMENT OUTCOMES:

"Average quarterly wages" means the total wages earned in a three-month period by all students who completed the program ("completers"), divided by the total number of completers.

"Median quarterly wages" means all the completers' quarterly wages are placed in order from lowest to highest and then we identify the student's wages in the middle. This information is provided because averages can be greatly influenced by really high and low wage earners.

To estimate monthly wages, divide the quarterly wages by three.
