Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary (EFDA)

The Wisconsin Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) program will prepare students for the following activities as delegated and supervised by a dentist: Placement and finishing of restoration material after the dentist prepares a tooth for restoration; Application of sealants; Coronal polishing; Impressions; Temporizations; Packing cord; Removal of cement from crowns; Adjustment of dentures and other removable oral appliances; Removal of sutures and dressings; and Application of topical fluoride, fluoride varnish, or similar dental topical agent. Submit a copy of your current Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) certification and proof of 1,000 hours of Dental Assistant work experience within the last 5 years. Proof of work experience must show number of hours worked, dates of employment, be signed by the office personnel or dentist verifying employment, and be on company letterhead or include company logo. OR At least 2,000 hours practicing as a dental assistant, as verified by the supervising licensed dentist. Submit proof of 2,000 hours of Dental Assistant work experience within the last 5 years. Proof of work experience must show number of hours worked, dates of employment, be signed by the office personnel or dentist verifying the employment, and be on company letterhead or include company logo. No set application deadline. October 1 is the date Northwood Tech begins taking applications for the following fall term. February 1 is the date for the following spring term, and July 1 for the following summer term. District residents who apply on or before the following dates shall have admission priority. For programs commencing any time during the fall semester, the preceding January 1. For programs commencing any time during the spring semester, the preceding May 1. For programs commencing any time during the summer semester, the preceding October 1. After the dates specified above, district residents shall have priority equal to non-district state residents for admission to programs.
Employment Services available to College students and graduates include: Electronic postings of all current openings listed with Employment Services are located on Wisconsin TechConnect, work-study positions within Northwood Tech are mailed/e-mailed to eligible students, Salary and placement information Northwood Tech dates are posted on the Northwood Tech Web site on each program page, resumé assistance - staff are available to assist with resumés, cover letters, etc. (check with Student Services), seminars/workshops held on campus (including interview preparation), and job fairs held on campus.
The Academic Support Center (ASC) is located at each campus. Community members and students are encouraged to meet with an ASC instructor to create a personalized success plan. Services include: GED/HSED preparation, college preparation coursework, academic support within the classroom, foundational skill building classes in math/writing/reading, test taking and study skills strategies, critical thinking skills, basic computer skills, learning styles inventory, free peer tutoring, workshops focused on student learning, math and writing labs, academic coaching: individual one on one support, and English Language Learner (ELL) classes.

Students are responsible for a percentage of tuition and fees as determined by the WTCS Tuition and Fee Refund Policy when a class is dropped after the date classes start (regardless if the student ever attended). Refunds are calculated from the date the student formally notifies the Student Services office of their intent to drop a class or completely withdraws. Students must complete a drop form or drop classes online through MyNorthwoodTech. Refer to the Student Handbook for specifics.
